JacksonBlazer writes, " DETROIT, Mich. — A national report says Michigan is the worst in the nation when it comes to graduating black male students from high school. It also said Detroit has the second lowest rate among big-city public school districts. The report issued by the Schott Foundation for Public Education said Michigan graduated 33 percent of black males in 2005-06, compared with 74 percent of white males. Detroit Public Schools graduated 20 percent of black males and 17 percent of white males. State Superintendent Mike Flanagan said the low graduation numbers are a major concern. He said Governor Granholm’s small high school initiative will help build greater relevance and relationships with schools and students.

Some have focused in on career goals, some are learning skills for a part-time job while in college, some come to explore career opportunities, and others go just to be with their friends.
