| Area Leaders Respond To Portis Resignation |
JacksonBlazer writes, "Some say .If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.. Former Police Chief Ervin was the center of an investigation that involved the Jackson Police Department. Abuse of power and hostile work environment were a few of the claims initiated by retired Sgt. Scott Rogers that prompted the investigation. However, regardless of the results of the investigation, which is expected to be concluded by October 1, Portis has resigned and taken a job in his home state of Nebraska.
Portis has stated his reason leaving was about being home. City Councilman Carl Breeding was asked if he thought the investigation influenced Portis. decision to resign. .I would have hoped that if he was going to resign, someone would have had some knowledge of it, and perhaps he would have given the administration an opportunity to do some researching for his replacement, and then it would have saved the city $25,000. So, I don.t know what his thinking was, whether or not he made this decision to go back to Nebraska because of the atmosphere of his police department. "
