Al Sharpton Takes Interest In Willie
writes, "Rhonda Anderson, mother of Willie Anderson III, met with The Rev. Al Sharpton on Thursday June 5 in Detroit, with hopes that he may take an interest in her son’s murder case. Sharpton was in Detroit at the Wayne/Oakland County National Action Network 1st Annual Leadership Meeting, on Thursday, June 05, 2008, at Greater Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Reverend Al Sharpton, is the current National President of The National Action Network. He has been an outspoken advocate of Civil Rights, and is recognized nationwide for his continuous fight for social justice."
Willie Anderson III is charged with the murder of Chuckles Party Store clerk Harinder Singh Kang in a holdup Sept. 4, 2006. Two weeks later, Anderson, who was16 at the time, was also charged with shooting at another man. Prosecutors say the same .38-caliber handgun was used in both shootings. The hand gun has never been recovered.

The Anderson trial, which was set to begin on June 23, has been postponed to a date not set, to due to illness of the prosecutor Allison Bates. An August trial date may be possible. Anderson has been in jail for over 21 months.

Police contend that Anderson was connected to the murder by Fila shoe prints on the counter at Chuckles Party Store. The Anderson family has protested their son’s arrest from the very beginning, insisting that police arrested the wrong person and the real assailant is still at large. They have placed ads in The Jackson Blazer and conducted several peaceful protest around the city carrying “FreeWillie” signs The National Action Network…a social and activist organization, founded by Rev. Currently, there are 36 chapters nationwide and now Michigan has a Wayne and Oakland County Chapter. The Wayne/Oakland County National Action Network (WOCNAN) has helped an ever-growing number of individual in need with a wide range of concerns
