JacksonBlazer writes, "Hopes to play on LPGA
Shanna Page, former Northwest High School standout, now attending Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana , won medalist honors at of the NAIA Golf National Championships held at Lake San Marcos Country Club in San Marcos, California held May 20 –May 23."

Bethel College finished in fifth place as a team for their best ever finish at nationals. Page shot a final round 77 that was good enough for a four-stroke win over Kyla Inaba of the University of British Columbia. The win is extra sweet for the junior who earned All-American status a year ago after finishing as the runner-up at Lake San Marcos in 2007.
“I was shocked after winning,” said Shanna. “ It felt very surreal and I felt very blessed. I was thanking God and giving Him all the glory. I couldn’t have done any of it without my faith in Christ. It was very helpful to constantly site scripture throughout my head in the tournament. I went into the tournament knowing that if I played like I did in the fall, that I would win the tournament. I knew I had what it took and I prepared all I could for it, so all I had to do was play the rounds.”
Shanna trailed the first three days of the four day tournament, and trailed by four shots going into the final day, but rallied to shoot 77 and come away with a four-shot victory.
Shanna, who comes from an athletic family, and taught the game by her dad, Dave, would really like to take her game to the next level once she graduates next year. Shanna started playing golf in 7th grade. “I was told I had potential to be great and good things happened as I improved” said Shanna. “It would be a dream come true if I could play on the LPGA.”
In High School she won the State Championship in Division 2, and made the Super team (which is the top 8 players in all divisions in the state of Michigan) for two years. Her lowest score in high school was a 69 in regionals and a 33 in a match.
After graduation from high school, and after talking with the coaches from Grand Valley, Oakland University and the University of Michigan she decided that going to a Christian college was a priority. Shanna, a devout young Christian, and a lover of golf, equates the game with life. “I love that golf is so similar to life,” says Shanna. “There are so many ups and downs, but through it all you have to persevere in order to finish the race. Just like in life, you have to push through the hard times and try to keep positive.”
Shanna is presently playing in the 3-day Jackson County Women’s Golf Association’s Medal Play tournament at Arbor Hills(June 16-18). She shot 72 on the first day and leads the tournament by 6 shots over Andrea Clark.
