| PARKSIDE PARTNERS WITH NASA |
|
JacksonBlazer writes, "How our partnership with NASA began with a dream to work with NASA. Several years ago NASA developed a new partnership with schools across the nation to increase students interest, knowledge, and understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math and the careers associated with them. The partnership included professional development for staff, grant money for technology equipment, and a wealth of resources."
|
After a team of teachers apply for the partnership several years ago, Parkside was accepted in the spring of 2006. The highlights of the 2007-2008 school year included the following. We held several video-conferences where students learned important science and math concepts from NASA personnel including the crew of STS 125 which will be traveling to Hubble in the fall.
Four staff members flew a students generated experiment in NASA’s Weightless Wonder this school year. Upon their return students were able to analyze the data that was collected. A proposal will be submitted for the upcoming school year this summer. Several family nights were held where families experienced spooky science, experimented with toys in space, the second annual egg drop competition, and other interesting activities.
This summer several Parkside teachers will be attending NASA sponsored workshops throughout the country. The plans for next year include following the mission to Hubble, working with a mission on the moon, submitting a proposal for the microgravity plane, exciting family nights, Digital learning activities with our videoconferencing equipment, and exciting family nights to name a few things.
